Pooja Banker

Hey there! I’m Pooja. I’d like to start off by introducing you to my great-grandfather, who chose to change our family name to Banker. Little did he know that the Banker family would migrate to Parsippany, NJ, and little Ms. Banker would have the pleasure of being seated alphabetically next to Ms. Aslam. And thus sprouted the friendship that blossomed into Poppy Seed Events.

While my family might have changed our last name to “be different”, I’ve always strongly embraced my Indian heritage. Whether it was studying the art of Kathak or attending Vivekananda Vidyapith, I’ve always felt a deep connection to my Indian roots.

In addition to my love for my own culture, I also enjoy discovering new destinations, embracing different cultures, immersing myself in nature’s beauty, and savoring the unique flavors of local cuisines as I travel. When I’m not out exploring, you’ll likely find me with my nose buried in a good book.

Nature, travel, and literature all benefit my mental health, a topic I devote a majority of my attention to. My passion for mental health has led me to pursue a career as a psychiatric physician assistant. While psychiatry and wedding planning might seem like worlds apart, they actually have a lot in common. Just as I help people handle the stresses of mental health, I’m adept at managing the stresses that come with wedding planning and the big day itself—though with Poppy Seed Events, we aim to make it as stress-free as possible!

Sabeen Aslam

Hi, my name is Sabeen! I was born and raised in New Jersey, but I now live in Pennsylvania with my husband and our dogs, Pepper and Cinnamon. I am the middle of five Pakistani-American siblings, who I consider my built-in-best-friends.

I’ve loved to dance for as long as I can remember being able to watch Bollywood movies. I never really danced in any official capacity until I joined a competitive Raas and Garba team in college, an experience which brought so much beauty into my life. My weakness is chai, though I only know how to make it one way. I have a lifelong goal of being conversationally fluent in five languages, but for now, I am confident in my English and spoken Urdu. For the last several years post-college, I’ve worked in a healthcare admin role in cancer care, which has been incredibly rewarding.

Growing up in a big immediate and extended family gave me an appreciation for celebration, hosting, expressing your love language, and memory-making. On the side, I always helped loved ones plan and execute their wedding events. Finally, I fully planned my own wedding in 2023, which I thought was the most fun process! After assistant coordinating for a few companies as well and discussing my dreams with my childhood friend Pooja, we decided to open our own.

Some other things I care about: reducing health disparities, nature sight-seeing, and Avatar: the Last Airbender
